AA/Al-Anon
AA/Al-Anon meetings are held weekly in Fellowship Hall. AA is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem. (from the AA web site). Bluegrass Cycling Club
The Bluegrass Cycling Club is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization based in Lexington. It’s mission is to encourage bicycling for health, recreation, and transportation; to promote bicycle safety; to improve bicycling facilities; and to further all phases of bicycling. Part of the Bluegrass Cycling Club, the Bluegrass Bike Partner program was created to promote bicycling and establish a safe, supportive and welcoming relationship between cyclists, businesses, churches, public agencies, public and private organizations, and private individuals. A Bluegrass Bike Partner is any individual, business or organization that wants to be identified as a location where cyclists know they are welcomed. Christmas Family Adoption
For many years, and as needed, Midway Christian Church sponsors one or more families for Christmas. As a popular outreach in Midway, we work with the Family Resource Officer at Northside Elementary, we learn the ages and gender of the family members as well as what is on their wish list. Through generous donations from church members, a Christmas is provided for the family.
Christmas Shoebox Project
During the Christmas season, and as indicated by Northside Elementary, Midway Christian Church works with the school Family Resource Officer to provide Christmas Shoeboxes to children in need. The names and wish lists of children, who otherwise might not have a Christmas, are made available to congregation members who shop to fill, and often overfill, the Christmas Shoeboxes. Church volunteers then wrap the gifts and return to the school for distribution.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Midway Christian Church hosts a Community Thanksgiving Dinner every year, generally the week before Thanksgiving. This is an opportunity to give back to Midway by inviting the community to join us for a meal and entertainment. Our doors are open to all for an evening of food, fun, and fellowship.
Historic Second Christian Church
Historic Second Christian Church was established in 1852, and is believed to be the oldest black church in the nation. It was first located on what is now the campus of Midway College, and in 1906 moved across East Stephens Street to its present location on Smith Street. Second Christian was organized out of Midway Christian Church so that the slaves could have a place of their own to worship. (from Midway College website)
Free Monthly Community Dinner
Since August 2011, Midway Christian Church has offered a monthly free community dinner as an outreach in Midway. All in the community are invited to come to our table, to come and be in relationship with one another, to come and experience the abundance of God’s grace, all through an invitation to dinner. Volunteers from Midway Christian help prepare, serve, and clean up afterwards. With few exceptions, this dinner is held on the last Monday of each month.
Homeplace at Midway
The Homeplace at Midway is a continuing care community of small cottages nestled on 31 acres in picturesque Midway, across from Midway University. It opened in 2015 as Kentucky’s first Green House® senior living community. The Homeplace at Midway is part of Christian Care Communities which is the state’s largest faith-based not-for-profit provider of affordable housing and long-term care for Older Adults. Horsey Hundred Cycling
The Horsey Hundred is an annual Memorial Day weekend of cycling sponsored by the Bluegrass Cycling Club. Starting at Georgetown College, the route winds through the bluegrass and its beautiful scenery. Midway Christian Church members are among the community volunteers who man the Midway rest stop.
Iron Horse Half Marathon Breakfast
The city of Midway hosts the annual Iron Horse Half Marathon in October. The route, which starts and finishes in downtown Midway, takes runners through the rolling green hills of its beautiful rural countryside. Midway Christian Church hosts a breakfast for the families of the runners and offers them a place to relax during the race.
Midway University
Midway University, located in Midway, Kentucky, is a private, non-profit liberal arts college, founded in 1847 by Dr. Lewis L. Pinkerton, as the first school in the United States to serve orphaned and disadvantaged women. Through the years the school evolved and became Pinkerton High School, Midway Junior College, Midway College and on July 1, 2015, Midway University. Midway University is a leader in providing educational opportunities for men and women who wish to continue their education. The main campus provides a unique learning, living opportunity for students seeking their undergraduate degrees. Midway Food Pantry
The Midway Food Pantry is housed in Midway Baptist Church and is available for all citizens of Midway. It can be used one time per month per household. At this time they are only able to provide non perishable food items, cleaning supplies and toiletries.
Midway Ministerial Association
The Midway Ministerial Association is a local organization supported by the area churches and offers the opportunity for our local congregations to give back to our community. The MMA supports a fund that is made available to those in our community who are in need of rent assistance, help with utilities, and other types of assistance. The MMA also supports the Midway Food Pantry that is housed at Midway Baptist Church.
Worship Service for Nursing Homes
The leadership and members of Midway Christian Church provide a casual worship service at local nursing homes. For several years, this was held at Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles. Beginning in 2016, Midway Christian, along with other local churches, offered a worship service for the residents of The Homeplace at Midway, a continuing care community across from Midway University.
Rummage Sale
Historically, each year in September, during the Midway Fall Festival celebration, Disciples Women hosted a Rummage Sale in the basement of Fellowship Hall. What began as a small church fundraiser sponsored by the Finance Committee in the early 1990s, the Annual Rummage Sale has grown into a large church-wide event attracting visitors and shoppers statewide. Proceeds from the Rummage Sale support the numerous missions of the Disciples Women as well as offer an affordable shopping alternative for clothing, furniture, and various household items. This event may not occur each year.
Scouting
Since the 1990s, Midway Christian Church has been active in Scouting, holding charters or hosting meeting space for Cub Scout Pack 41, Boy Scout Troop 40, Daisy Troop 2261, and Girl Scout Troop 1038.
Weekend Backpack Project
Midway Presbyterian Church sponsors the Weekend Backpack Project to help feed kids who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. Cash donations are always welcome as are ready-to-eat or microwavable healthy, individual-serving foods.

Camp Wakon’ Da-Ho
Camp Wakon’ Da-Ho is located in Casey County, KY. Each summer, children and youth gather from across the state of Kentucky to experience church camp and to grow in their relationship with God. For many years, Midway Christian has supported Camp Wakon’ Da-Ho by making a financial donation and by sending youth and children to camp.
Cane Ridge Meeting House
Cane Ridge continues to be a living church. Prayer, singing, and preaching occur in the Meeting House, a place of worship for many congregations and religious groups who come as welcome guests each year. Since the late 18th century and now, in the 21st century, worship services, weddings, celebrations, lectures, and other gatherings have taken place in the church and on its grounds. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) In Kentucky (CCK) is one of 33 geographic regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. CCK is nearly 420 ministers, and 30,000 men, women and youth in 224 congregations throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It is leadership and faith development ministries for women, men, and youth through camps, retreats and conferences. It is Kentucky Appalachian Ministries and the CCK West Area. It is our Kentucky partner ministries Cane Ridge Meeting House, Christian Care Communities, the Kentucky Council of Churches, Lexington Theological Seminary, Midway College and Transylvania University. Hope Center
The Hope Center, in Lexington, has a mission “to care for homeless and at-risk persons by providing life-sustaining and life-rebuilding services that are comprehensive and address underlying causes”. Among many services, they provide shelter and meals to those in need. At the direction of the Hope Center, Midway Christian Church collects and donates supplies needed for their clients. Hope Ministries Food Pantry of Woodford County
The Hope Ministries Food Pantry of Woodford County is a community supported food bank which has food available for people in need within our community. It is located in the Woodford County Park off Beasley Road. Clients receive a grocery cart of food which contains basic items such as meats, cheeses, and butter. They are also able to choose items such as canned vegetables and canned fruits among other items to supplement their basket. The Hope Ministries Food Pantry does work with God’s Pantry to obtain various food items but relies on community donations for most of the food items that fill their shelves.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries
Kentucky Refugee Ministries assists refugees who have been legally admitted to the United States as victims of warfare or other forms of persecution because of their religious or political beliefs. Our staff includes caseworkers, job developers, ESL teachers and interpreters. Our staff speaks English, Spanish, Bosnian, French, Nepali, Somali, Arabic and German and also works closely with contract interpreters who speak other languages native to the refugees we serve.
Lexington Theological Seminary
Lexington Theological Seminary is an accredited graduate theological institution related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The purpose of LTS is to prepare faithful leaders for the church of Jesus Christ and, thus, to strengthen the church’s participation in God’s mission for the world. (from LTS website)
Transylvania University
Transylvania University is a distinguished liberal arts college, affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), of approximately 1,100 students that is consistently ranked and praised in the leading national college guides. Transylvania offers 34 majors plus the option of designing an individual major. Students gain a strong grounding in liberal education, however the University also emphasizes career planning. The mission of Un-Shackled By Love Ministries is to LOVE back to life, set-free, restore, and equip women in the sex industry, victims of sex trafficking, depression and chemical addictions, to live healthy, hopeful, and Christ centered lives. Woodford County Backpack Project
The Woodford County Backpack project is a joint effort of the Woodford County Extension Homemakers and the Woodford County 4-H program. This project was designed to help provide back-to-school items to the estimated 300 preschool through 12th grade Woodford County students who do not have the required items to begin the start school year.

Christmount Christian Assembly
Christmount Christian Assembly is a retreat, camp and conference center whose mission is to provide opportunities in the heart of the mountains for Christian hospitality, rest for the soul and renewal for the journey. Disciples Mission Fund
