A Pastoral Word
On Wednesday, August 17th, we received the great news that our kitchen was certified through the Woodford County Health Department! As I mentioned in last month's pastoral word article, this opens the door for some amazing ministry opportunities for Midway Christian Church, but one of the main reasons that I am so excited about this wonderful beginning is that we are truly claiming our identity as People of the Table. Once a month, we will be inviting our community to come to our table, to come and be in relationship with one another, to come and experience the abundance of God's grace, all through an invitation to dinner. As I pondered the potential outcome of these community meals, I was reminded of a quote by one of my favorite theologians, Henri Nouwen. He shared that:
"When we gather around the table and break the bread together, we are transformed not only individually but also as community. We, people from different ages and races, with different backgrounds and histories, become one body. As Paul says: 'As there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all share in the one loaf' . Not only as individuals, but also as community, we become the living Christ, taken, blessed, broken, and given to the world. As one body, we become a living witness of God's immense desire to bring all peoples and nations together as the one family of God."
What a great thought! And one that I hope continues to inspire us as we invite our community to our table!
