A Pastoral Word
We began our Surfing the Edge Journey the beginning of June and now the work begins! The Guiding Team is hard at work on their part and I'm beginning my work. My first part of my Surfing the Edge Journey is to ask people to take a survey for me that will be compiled into a form called a Pastor 360. What is a Pastor's 360? Well, it "provides the pastor/leader with a process of identifying new skills and competencies to lead their people in the midst of transformational change. It is a tool, not a program, that gets a leader started in discovering the skills and capacities required for leading in transformation. It is based on the Missional Change Model (see Roxburgh & Romanuk, The Missional Leader). It is designed to initiate listening conversations about my skills, capacities and pass-on-able habits around missional innovation as a leader. It is not a standard survey or evaluation tool based in best practices but an introduction to doing adaptive change. It is a 'photograph' of me as a leader at one moment in time based on the composite input of people. It is a personal and confidential assessment of the areas where I will need to develop skills and capacities at this point in time. The survey measures sixteen factors or capacities categorized into four broad areas: character, cultivating people, forming a missional environment and engaging context. The last three areas are built upon the foundation of the character of the leader." (taken from www.roxburghmissionalnet.com)
I am asking all members of Midway Christian to take this survey that will ask you to respond to a series of questions around a set of skills and capacities in adaptive leadership based on a scale from 5 to 1. These multiple responses are collated into a comprehensive report personally designed for me. There is a link on our website to the on-line survey with all the necessary instructions for inviting everyone to participate in the Pastor 360 or you can simply go to: http://msurvey.org/p/2011/06/hm/ . The survey takes about 35-40 minutes to complete. If you do not have internet access and would like to participate, please let me know. We can set up some time for you to use the office computer.
